PM Modi's Assam visit delivers land rights and ₹19,480 crore infrastructure push
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam to launch a series of development projects and initiatives aimed at boosting the state's growth. During his trip, he distributed land ownership documents to tea garden workers and inaugurated key infrastructure schemes worth thousands of crores. The visit also marked the release of funds under a national farmers' welfare programme.
The Prime Minister began his Assam visit by handing out land pattas to tea garden workers. This initiative, started in 2023–2024, promised over 3 million documents, but so far around 1.2 million have been distributed. Most of these have gone to workers in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat districts.
Modi praised the workers for shaping Assam's global reputation through tea production. He also criticised past governments, particularly Congress, for neglecting their welfare. The BJP's current efforts, he claimed, were correcting decades of inaction. Beyond land rights, the Prime Minister inaugurated projects totalling Rs 19,480 crore. Among them was the Lower Kopili Hydro Power Project, a major step in Assam's energy sector. He also released over Rs 18,000 crore under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, benefiting farmers nationwide. Modi described Assam as a model for the Northeast's progress. He further suggested that the BJP's development work in the region had influenced neighbouring states, including West Bengal, where voters were now looking toward BJP governance.
The visit reinforced the government's focus on Assam's tea workers, farmers, and infrastructure. Land pattas for over a million workers have been delivered, while new projects and funds aim to strengthen the state's economy. The initiatives also highlight the BJP's broader push for development in the Northeast.
