Point Alpha Memorial joins International Museum Day with Cold War history tours
The Point Alpha Foundation will take part in the 49th International Museum Day on Sunday, May 17. Visitors can explore special programmes, guided tours, and exhibitions at the Point Alpha Memorial. This year’s theme, Discover Museums with Joy, encourages engagement with history in an interactive way. On May 17, the memorial will open its doors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A highlight of the day is the guided tour Under Surveillance, starting at 11 a.m. This tour costs €5 for adults and €2.50 for students and trainees, though children under 16 enter free.
Another guided tour, covering the memorial’s key themes, will run for €3.50 per person. Beyond these events, a special exhibition—*The Party Is Always Right: The SED in Everyday Life in the GDR*—remains on display for visitors. The memorial will also offer guided tours after Ascension Day and over the Pentecost weekend. These additional sessions provide more opportunities to explore the historic site.
The event combines education and accessibility, with reduced fees for younger visitors. The extended opening hours and varied programmes aim to attract a wide audience. Those interested in Cold War history can take part in tours and exhibitions throughout the day.
