POL-BS: First Woman at the Helm of Police Inspectorate Gifhorn

Carmen Scholze has officially taken charge of the Gifhorn Police Department. The experienced officer steps into the role after a career marked by leadership positions in Lower Saxony’s law enforcement. She replaces Oliver Meyer, who has moved to a new position within the state government.

Scholze began her policing career in 2012, joining the Lower Saxony force as a police counselor after completing her law degree. Between 2012 and 2016, she led operations at the former Hanover-South Police Station. By May 2023, her expertise had earned her a promotion to director of the Operations and Traffic Division at the state ministry.

In mid-December 2025, she took over as head of the Police Inspectorate Gifhorn. Now, she assumes command of the entire Gifhorn Police Department, initially appointed for a one-year term. Her appointment follows the transfer of Senior Police Director Oliver Meyer to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior, Sports, and Digitalization. Police President Thomas Ring welcomed Scholze’s leadership, highlighting her dedication and extensive experience. He also acknowledged Meyer’s years of conscientious service. Scholze has outlined her vision for the department, focusing on modern, community-oriented, and decisive policing strategies.

Scholze’s appointment brings a fresh approach to Gifhorn’s law enforcement. Her background in operations and traffic management, combined with her legal training, positions her to lead the department through its next phase. The transition marks a shift in leadership as the force adapts to new priorities under her direction.
