Poland secures €6.5 billion as first EU nation to join SAFE programme
Poland is set to become the first country to join the EU’s SAFE programme. The credit agreement will be signed shortly, with Warsaw expecting an advance payment of €6.5 billion by the end of the month. The signing ceremony will take place in both Warsaw and Vilnius. Poland’s delegation will include Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Andrzej Domański. Representing the EU, Petr Seraphin and Andrius Kubilius will finalise the deal.
Lithuania will also sign a similar agreement at the same time. A total of 19 EU countries are expected to participate in the programme. However, the disbursement of funds still depends on the European Commission completing its internal procedures. Once the formalities are finished, Poland will receive its first payment. The agreement marks the official start of the SAFE programme for participating nations. Further signings from other EU members are likely to follow in the coming months.
