Poland’s autumn political realignments reveal shifting strategies ahead of elections

Poland's political landscape has witnessed significant realignments and events during the autumn conference season. Civic Platform and its allies have merged under the Civic Coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska - KO) banner, solidifying the ruling coalition's core. Meanwhile, Law and Justice (PiS) hosted a major 'Myśląc Polska / Thinking Poland' convention, and various political circles engaged in discussions on statecraft, strategy, education, and the economy.

Law and Justice (PiS) kicked off the season with a two-day 'Myśląc Polska / Thinking Poland' politico convention in Katowice. The event featured multiple plenaries and over a hundred specialist panels, covering a wide range of policy domains. This was seen as a brainstorming first step towards refreshing their program for the next election cycle.

The Krynica Forum served as a national ideas fair, hosting debates between prominent figures from different political backgrounds. Simultaneously, the conservative and centrist circles focused on hard subjects and Polish culture, particularly education, during the XV Poland, the Great Project (Polska Wielki Projekt) Congress.

The upcoming Independence March, with the slogan 'One Nation-Strong Poland', is expected to draw leading figures of the Right, including President Nawrocki. Meanwhile, centrist figures gathered at the Poznań Economic Congress to discuss a multi-speed EU, an 'economic NATO', and a 'Powered by Poland' agenda.

The liberal Left, reunited under a refreshed banner, projected unity but lacked programmatic detail during the same period.

The autumn conference season has revealed an asymmetry of purpose among Polish political camps. While the Right and parts of the center focused on ideational housekeeping and strategic reframing, the governing camp prioritized unity and brand architecture over detailed content. As the political landscape continues to evolve, these discussions and realignments are expected to shape Poland's political and economic trajectory.
