Police and taxi crash in Berlin after emergency response goes wrong

A car and a taxi collided in Berlin’s Wedding district late on December 9, 2024. The crash happened at the intersection of Müllerstraße and Sellerstraße, leaving both cars too damaged to drive away. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.

The accident took place at around 11:45 p.m. The police car was responding to an emergency, with lights flashing, and entered the intersection despite a red signal. At the same time, the 42-year-old taxi driver was turning left into Müllerstraße.

Neither the taxi driver nor the police officer suffered injuries in the collision. However, a 26-year-old passenger in the police car reported hand pain and was taken to hospital for outpatient care.

The case has now been passed to the Traffic Offenses Unit of Police Directorate 1 (North) for further examination.

Both cars were severely damaged and could not be driven after the crash. The investigation will determine the exact circumstances, including the actions of the emergency vehicle. No details about the taxi driver’s identity or background have been made public.
