Police uncover illegal meat-processing site in Astana with tons of unapproved products
An illegal meat-processing workshop has been discovered in Astana during a police operation. Officers found the facility handling livestock heads without proper approvals or paperwork. The discovery led to a large seizure of meat products and equipment. The workshop was exposed as part of Operation Cattle Thief. Inside, officers discovered animal heads, fat, waste, and 180 sacks of processed meat—weighing a total of three tons. None of the products had the required veterinary clearance. Specialised tools and machinery used for meat processing were also confiscated. Authorities later destroyed all the illegally produced meat by incineration at the city landfill. The individual in charge of the workshop was fined for operating without the necessary permits. However, their identity has not been made public. The operation resulted in the shutdown of an unlicensed meat-processing site. All seized products were incinerated to prevent distribution. The case highlights ongoing efforts to enforce food safety regulations in the region.
