A new poll by Emerson College has revealed a divided nation on President Trump's second term, with half of voters deeming it successful and the other half disagreeing. The survey also gauged opinions on the Israel-Hamas war and the upcoming 2026 house election results. President Trump's approval rating stands at 45%, with 48% disapproving, according to the latest Emerson College Polling survey. However, views on his handling of the Israel-Hamas war are more positive, with 47% approving and 34% disapproving. Among Republicans, 80% approve of his handling, while Democrats disapprove at 57%. Independents are nearly evenly split, with 43% approving and 38% disapproving. Looking ahead to the 2026 presidential election, Democrats have a slight edge with 44% support, compared to Republicans' 43%. The economy is the top issue for voters, with 31% citing it as their primary concern. Meanwhile, 40% of voters report their household finances have worsened in the past year, while 30% say they've improved. In a hypothetical 2028 presidential election matchup, Vice President JD Vance (R) leads California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) 46% to 45%, with 10% undecided. The Emerson College Polling survey paints a picture of a nation divided on President Trump's legacy and the direction of the country. As the 2026 house election results and the 2028 presidential election approach, voters' focus on economic issues may shape the political landscape.
