Pope Leo unites Christian leaders at historic Nicaea anniversary prayer
Pope Leo travelled by helicopter from Istanbul to join an ecumenical prayer service in Iznik. The event marked the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, a landmark moment in Christian history. Leaders from different Christian traditions gathered to honour the occasion together.
The service took place on the shores of Lake Iznik, near the ruins of the ancient Basilica of Saint Neophytos. Christian leaders, including Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, prayed at the archaeological site. The hymns alternated between Catholic and Orthodox traditions, reflecting a spirit of unity.
