Portugal Evaluates Aircraft for Critical Medical Evacuation Missions

Portugal's Defense Minister Nuno Melo has clarified the purpose of an aircraft assessment. It's not for immediate medical emergencies or primary rescue missions, but for 'medical evacuation'. The assessment involves a mix of aircraft types.

The assessment chart includes various aircraft suitable for medical evacuation. These range from helicopters like the Sikorsky UH-60 variants and Airbus EC135 to fixed-wing aircraft such as the Airbus A330 MRTT and Pilatus PC-12. The Airbus A400M, designed for tactical and strategic transport, is also included. Notably, the Bundeswehr's A350 and A321 NEO LR can be swiftly converted into flying hospitals.

The defense minister aims to evaluate these aircraft's capabilities for medical evacuation missions. This involves transporting patients over long distances, often from conflict zones or remote areas, to medical facilities for treatment.

The aircraft assessment, led by Minister Nuno Melo, focuses on medical evacuation capabilities. It involves a diverse range of aircraft, from helicopters to strategic transport planes. The assessment aims to ensure Portugal's military has the right tools for this critical task.
