Advent begins in Potsdam - Churches turn on lights - Potsdam’s Christmas Lights Illuminate Brandenburg Street on Monday Evening
Potsdam’s festive Christmas lights will switch on this Monday evening at 7:15 PM. The event marks the start of the holiday season along Brandenburg Street’s shopping mile. Before the ceremony, an ecumenical service will take place in the chapel of the Garrison Church.
The lighting ceremony follows a carefully chosen schedule. Organisers decided to wait until after Totensonntag (the Sunday of the Dead) to avoid interrupting the reflective mood of late November. This ensures the quiet, solemn tone of the month is respected before the joyful anticipation of Advent begins.
The Christmas lights will remain lit throughout the holiday season. Their activation follows a period of reflection and aligns with the opening of local markets. The event signals the transition from late autumn’s quiet remembrance to the festive spirit of Advent.
