Poultry Farmer Rebuilds After Bird Flu Wipes Out His Entire Flock
A GoFundMe campaign has raised over €12,000 to help Holger Nöhrnberg, a poultry farmer whose livelihood was devastated by avian flu. The outbreak forced the culling of his 1,100 laying hens, leaving him without his main source of income. Support poured in from nearly 300 donors after a loyal customer set up the fundraiser.
Holger Nöhrnberg’s farm faced a severe setback when avian flu struck his flock. Authorities ordered the culling of all 1,100 hens, which had been his primary way of earning money. Though the lockdown zone around his property was later lifted, his farm remains without steady earnings until new pullets mature and begin laying eggs.
The donations will provide temporary relief while Nöhrnberg waits for his farm to recover. New pullets must grow before they can produce eggs, meaning income will take time to return. For now, the community’s generosity has given him a financial cushion during this difficult period.
