President Marcos Appoints Pamela Baricuatro as RDC 7 Chairperson
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has appointed Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro as the new chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7. This move comes as a surprise, as Baricuatro had withdrawn her nomination two months ago to promote unity among Cebu officials, endorsing Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival instead.
Baricuatro, who will serve a three-year term, sees her appointment as a 'vote of confidence' from the administration. She was one of two nominees for the position, along with Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, before her withdrawal on Aug. 28, 2025. Despite her earlier decision, President Marcos Jr. chose Baricuatro for the role, indicating his trust in her leadership.
As the RDC 7 chairperson, Baricuatro will play a crucial role in securing funding and approval for major projects in the region. She plans to facilitate revisiting development priorities for the region when the council reconvenes, ensuring that the needs of local government units are met.
Baricuatro's appointment as RDC 7 chairperson is expected to strengthen the bond between local government units and the National Government. Her leadership will be instrumental in driving regional development and ensuring that Cebu and its neighboring provinces receive the support they need for their projects.
