Prince George steps into royal duties with charity work and veteran tributes

Prince George’s role in royal duties is becoming more visible. The young prince recently joined his parents at The Passage charity to help prepare Christmas meals for those in need. His growing involvement has drawn attention, with comparisons to his father’s own upbringing.

On December 13, 2022, Prince George visited The Passage charity alongside his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. The family worked together to prepare festive meals for service users. During the visit, the nine-year-old signed the charity’s guestbook for the first time—adding his name to a record that includes his grandmother, Princess Diana, and father from a 1993 visit.

Earlier in the year, George attended a VE Day tea party for Second World War veterans. His presence left a strong impression, with D-Day veteran Alfred Littlefield praising the young prince for his understanding and composure. Mick Clarke, CEO of The Passage, later described the charity visit as a ‘proud father moment’ for William.

Prince William has spoken openly about balancing George’s royal duties with a normal childhood. Unlike his own experiences, he wants his son to engage without feeling overwhelmed. Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, noted this deliberate shift in parenting style. Princess Diana had similarly shielded William from excessive public appearances, a lesson he now applies to his own children.

George’s recent engagements mark a steady increase in his royal responsibilities. His contributions, from signing guestbooks to supporting veterans, reflect a measured approach to his future role. The prince’s involvement continues to evolve under his parents’ guidance.
