Princess Kate and Prince William honor WWII Pacific veterans on VJ Day’s 80th anniversary

A special reception at Windsor Castle will pay tribute to Pacific veterans of World War II, marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day. Princess Kate will visit the Armed Forces Memorial and meet veterans during her trip. A nationwide two-minute silence will be held at 11:00 AM.

The virtual event will feature first-hand accounts from 101-year-old George Durrant and 100-year-old Prince Albert Jacob, both World War II veterans. Their stories will be shared at the Royal British Legion's Remembrance Assembly, aimed at children aged 9 to 14. Prince William will deliver a video message to young people, emphasizing the importance of wearing a red poppy on Armistice Day as a symbol of gratitude and remembrance.

Princess Kate will also attend the Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. The event will include a two-minute silence, honoring the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. Prince William highlighted that remembrance teaches essential values such as empathy, resilience, and responsibility. The reception at Windsor Castle will be attended by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duchess of Gloucester, and Prince William.

The commemorative events will honor Pacific veterans of World War II and remember all those who have served. The public is encouraged to participate in the two-minute silence and wear a red poppy to show support and remembrance.
