100 Gaza Graffiti on Rostock University Building - Pro-Palestinian Graffiti Defaces University of Rostock, Causes €10k Damage
Overnight from Monday to Tuesday, unknown individuals defaced University of Rostock buildings with pro-Palestinian slogans. The graffiti, estimated to be around 100 inscriptions, also damaged two bus stops and a parked truck, causing approximately 10,000 euros of damage. University President Elizabeth Prommer has condemned the act and filed a complaint against the unknown perpetrators.
The graffiti, which referenced the Hamas terror attack on Israel on October 8, included slogans like 'Uni Rostock murders with in Gaza', 'Resistance is justified', and 'Free Palestine'. The police are currently investigating and seeking witnesses to identify the culprits.
The incident has sparked outrage among local politicians. Jenny Gundlach, state chairwoman of the CDU youth organization, described the graffiti as a 'shocking and shameful signal' that disrespects the victims. Science Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) condemned the vandalism and emphasized the importance of ensuring Jewish students feel safe and welcome. Charlotte Beermann, state chairwoman of the Christian Democratic Student Association (RCDS), expressed shock at the anti-Semitic slogans and glorification of Hamas terror. Daniel Peters, CDU state chairman, stated that the action aims to shift public discourse and that university spaces should not be used for conflict propaganda.
University President Elizabeth Prommer has assured that the action does not represent the student body or campus discourse, and they are working with the police to identify the perpetrators. The university community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
