Promised a safe job, sent to war: 22-yr old Bikaner youth killed in Russia-Ukraine conflict
Ajay Godara, a 22-year-old from Bikaner in Rajasthan, has been killed while fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war. His family received his body in their village, Arjansar, on December 18, 2025, after he was allegedly tricked into joining the Russian military under false pretences.
Godara had travelled to Russia in September 2025 on a student visa to attend a language course. Instead of studying, he was reportedly deceived by agents who promised him safe work or asylum. Within four days of arriving, he claimed in recorded videos that he had been forced into military service and sent to the front lines near Ukraine.
His last contact with family was on September 22, 2025, before his deployment. In desperate appeals, he described his fear and begged for help, stating he had been misled. The identities of the agents involved remain undisclosed as of December 2025. Godara’s body was repatriated to his village, where his final rites were conducted. He leaves behind his parents and a sister.
The case highlights the risks faced by foreign nationals lured to Russia under false promises. Godara’s death follows his forced conscription, despite arriving on a student visa. His family has now laid him to rest in Arjansar.
