Pune VIDEO: Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Sanjay Bhosale Joins BJP, Party Workers Stage Photo-Stomping Protest In Yerawada
Two former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporators in Pune switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. Sanjay Bhosale and Prithviraj Sutar left the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction, sparking protests from local party workers. The move has left Shiv Sena (UBT) without any former corporators in the city.
Sanjay Bhosale, a three-time corporator from Yerawada, officially joined the BJP in a public event. His departure triggered immediate backlash, with Shiv Sena (UBT) workers gathering in Yerawada-Gandhinagar to condemn him as a 'traitor'. Protest leader Sanjay Walhekar accused Bhosale of chasing power and personal gain.
Prithviraj Sutar, another ex-Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator, also defected to the BJP on the same day. The exits leave the Thackeray faction with no former corporators remaining in Pune. As of December 2025, no replacement office-bearers have been publicly named by the party.
The defections mark a setback for Shiv Sena (UBT) in Pune, stripping the party of its last former corporators. Local workers have responded with protests, while the BJP gains two experienced municipal leaders. No successor has yet been announced to fill their roles.
