Putin approves sweeping new benefits for SMO veterans and their families

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Igor Babushkin to discuss support measures for military personnel involved in the special military operation (SMO). The meeting resulted in a series of approved proposals aimed at improving healthcare, education, and employment prospects for SMO veterans and their families.

Putin ordered the resolution of difficulties in recognising pension claims for families of soldiers killed during the SMO. Additionally, he approved proposals for expanding access to psychological and psychotherapeutic support for SMO participants.

The meeting focused on granting combat veteran status to new categories of SMO participants and addressing issues faced by relatives of those killed while not on active combat missions. Babushkin proposed instructing the Defense Ministry to address the eligibility of relatives for benefits.

In education, returning SMO veterans would be offered preparatory courses and special enrollment opportunities in higher and secondary education institutions. Proposals were also made to streamline legal procedures and improve data sharing on SMO veterans and their families between government agencies and the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation.

Putin approved these proposals, stressing that they should be carefully detailed and implemented. The measures aim to provide comprehensive support to SMO veterans and their families, addressing their healthcare, education, and employment needs.
