Putin promotes Viktor Melnik to Russia's Deputy Prosecutor General

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Viktor Melnik as Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia. The move follows Melnik's five-year term as head of the St. Petersburg Prosecutor's Office. Alongside this promotion, he has received two honours for his service. Viktor Melnik was born in 1975 in Sevastopol. He graduated from St. Petersburg State University with a law degree in 2002. His career in prosecution led him to oversee St. Petersburg's office from 2021 until this year.

Melnik's recent achievements include an honorary diploma from the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. He was also awarded the Ministry of Defense medal named after Admiral S.G. Gorshkov. His appointment as Deputy Prosecutor General marks a further step in his legal career.

The reshuffle extends beyond Melnik. Andrei Gurishov has taken over as the new prosecutor of St. Petersburg. Denis Nazarenko is now prosecutor of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, while Pyotr Zaburko has been named prosecutor of Tver Region. The new appointments fill key roles in Russia's prosecution system. Melnik's promotion to Deputy Prosecutor General follows years of regional leadership. His replacements in St. Petersburg and other regions have now assumed their duties.
