Putin, Tokayev Discuss Energy Projects, Vow to Strengthen Russia-Kazakhstan Alliance

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed the importance of relations with Kazakhstan, highlighting the strategic alliance between the two nations. The latest meeting between Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took place in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, on October 14, 2025, where they discussed energy and infrastructure projects.

The two leaders have met several times in recent years, including in Dushanbe, to strengthen their economic ties. Their cooperation has resulted in 114 projects worth nearly $22 billion. Looking ahead, Tokayev will visit Russia on November 12 at Putin's invitation, aiming to further bolster their alliance.

Mutual trade between the countries is robust, with Russia being one of the main investors in the Kazakh economy. Since 2024, Kazakhstan has received $4 billion in investments from Russia. Tokayev views his upcoming visit as a significant event to enhance their strategic alliance.

Putin thanked Tokayev for his efforts in developing their bilateral relations and expressed confidence in the benefits of their meetings. Tokayev, in turn, views their alliance as eternal, stating that Kazakhstan and Russia are destined for friendship. With over $26 billion invested in the Kazakh economy over the years, Russia's role as a key investor is undeniable.
