Putin’s People’s Front Pushes for Online Marketplaces in State Procurement Overhaul
The People’s Front, a public movement led by Vladimir Putin, has proposed a significant shift in Russia's state procurement system. The movement, with regional branches across all federal subjects, believes expanding the use of online marketplaces could enhance transparency, competition, and efficiency.
Currently, the state procurement system faces challenges such as limited competition and a narrow supplier pool. Mikhail Kuznetsov, head of the People’s Front executive committee, supports an initiative to address these issues by broadening opportunities for contracting services through marketplace platforms. Kuznetsov presented these arguments at the 'Platform Economy Day: Digitizing State Procurement' session. The People’s Front believes leveraging modern trading platforms could bridge the significant gap in product availability between state-run e-stores and commercial marketplaces. However, satisfaction with the current system is low, with only one-third of procurement officials content with its performance.
The People’s Front's proposal aims to modernize Russia's state procurement system by embracing online marketplaces. This shift could potentially increase competition, improve transparency, and boost efficiency in the procurement process.
