💥 Quarterhorse Mk 1 Soars: Hermeus Rewrites Aviation History, Setting the Stage for Hypersonic

Edwards Air Force Base, Cali - (PRNewswire) #AerospaceRevolution - Hermeus, a cutting-edge aerospace and defense tech firm, steeped in high-speed aircraft innovations, announced the successful maiden voyage of their Quarterhorse Mk 1 aircraft today. This breakthrough is a monumental leap forward in Hermeus' quest to redefine hypersonic aircraft development.

"Mk 1 sets a new standard for quick, ambitious aircraft advancements," said AJ Piplica, CEO and co-founder of Hermeus. "I couldn't be more thrilled with what our groundbreaking team has accomplished. We've proven that our iterative approach works, but this is just the tip of the iceberg – the stakes keep getting higher with each new iteration."

With a development timeframe of less than a year and a half, Mk 1 went from concept to test-ready – a feat unheard of in the aviation industry. The primary objective of the test campaign was to validate high-speed takeoff and landing for large, autonomous aircraft. Given Mk 1's unique configuration, designed for high-speed flight, these basic operations present exceptional challenges.

"Partnerships remain critical to the development and testing of game-changing capabilities for our forces," said Major General Scott Cain, Commander of Air Force Test Center. "The potential of routine hypersonic flight is an exhilarating prospect for our joint team."

Data gathered during the test validated essential performance models, including aerodynamics, stability, and control. Additionally, tested vehicle systems, including propulsion, fuel systems, hydraulics, power, thermal management, avionics, flight software, telemetry, flight termination, and command and control, all performed flawlessly.

"Real-world data from Mk 1 provides invaluable insights that we're building into our next aircraft," said Skyler Shuford, President and co-founder of Hermeus. "Moreover, our team has successfully executed this milestone on an aggressive timeline, all while playing within the broader aerospace ecosystem – ultimately to help America reclaim its lost ability to swiftly prototype and build cutting-edge jets."

Mk 1 is the first in a line of uncrewed vessels in Hermeus' iterative development roadmap. This approach emphasizes 'full-on prototyping,' which involves creating multiple prototypes in quick succession, allowing the team to absorb risks strategically.

The team is currently poring over data from the Mk 1 test and applying lessons learned to Hermeus' next iteration, Quarterhorse Mk 2, now being assembled at Hermeus' headquarters in Atlanta. With a size similar to an F-16, Quarterhorse Mk 2 will be a high-speed aircraft designed to de-risk uncrewed supersonic flight. It is slated to take to the skies late this year.

Hermeus is a venture capital-backed aerospace and defense technology company on a mission to shake up aviation, envisioning a future where high-speed transit becomes a routine reality. At present, the company is focused on developing swift solutions that provide the Department of Defense and allied partners with a lasting competitive edge. By employing an iterative development approach to aircraft, Hermeus aims to bring high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft to the forefront, showcasing speeds unseen in U.S. aviation since the 1950s.
