Quick-Thinking Women Rescue Two Girls from Drowning at Hotel Pool
Two women in Marl have been praised for saving two girls from drowning at the Feierabendhaus Hotel. Nadja Kolski and Caroline Bückemeier acted quickly when the children, aged five and 14, got into trouble in the water. Their fast response kept the situation from turning tragic.
The incident happened during a swim at the hotel's pool. The younger girl, just five years old, and her 14-year-old companion began struggling in the water. Kolski and Bückemeier noticed the danger and pulled them to safety.
Both children were suffering from hypothermia but stayed conscious after the rescue. Emergency services arrived to check their condition, confirming they were stable.
Government President Andreas Bothe later recognised the women's bravery. He awarded them a Public Commendation, a state honour given for life-saving acts in North Rhine-Westphalia. The ceremony highlighted their quick thinking and willingness to help others in danger.
The two rescuers received official recognition for their actions. Their intervention ensured the girls avoided serious harm. The award reflects the state's appreciation for civilians who step in during emergencies.
