Rabindra University Students Demand Justice After Two Assaults
Tension has escalated at Rabindra University in Sirajganj following two separate assaults on students this week. The incidents have left students demanding equal justice and transparent disciplinary procedures.
On Monday, Jahidul Islam was assaulted by Hridoy Gazi, a student and joint general secretary of the university's Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. The altercation stemmed from a social media dispute. Following the incident, Hridoy Gazi was temporarily suspended from academic activities. The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, however, criticized the administration's move, deeming it 'politically motivated'.
In a separate incident, Hassan Iktidar Nipun was allegedly assaulted by a local man named Biplob outside the campus on Wednesday at 1:00 AM. Nipun was first taken to Shahjadpur Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital. Biplob was arrested soon after the attack, but no case has been filed yet. The university acting proctor stated that the incident happened outside campus premises, so the university cannot legally file a case. Students have locked the university gates, demanding the administration to file a case against Biplob and protesting against the delay.
The dual incidents have caused a stir on campus, with students calling for equal justice and fair disciplinary procedures. While Biplob has been arrested, no case has been filed yet, leaving students frustrated. The university administration is urged to take swift and decisive action to ensure the safety and justice for all students.
