Rainbow Flag Stolen and Burned in Berlin Youth Facility Attack
A rainbow flag was stolen and a flagpole damaged at a children’s and youth residential facility in Berlin’s Kaulsdorf district early yesterday morning. Staff discovered the vandalism around 7 a.m. and reported it to police shortly after.
Unknown individuals climbed over a fence to reach the property. They removed the rainbow flag, destroyed its mounting, and took the pole. Witnesses later reported seeing the flag being burned before the suspects fled.
Police received an online report of property damage soon after the incident. The State Protection Unit of Berlin’s Criminal Investigation Department has since taken charge of the case. Remnants of the burned flag were found outside the facility’s grounds. Authorities have not identified any suspects. The motive remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
The facility’s staff are cooperating with police as the inquiry continues. The State Protection Unit will examine evidence, including the flag remnants, to determine who was responsible. No arrests have been made so far.
