Rajya Sabha adjourned for 10 minutes after Cabinet ministers fail to appear
The Rajya Sabha faced a brief disruption on Wednesday when opposition MPs demanded an adjournment. Their protest came after no Cabinet Minister appeared for the scheduled proceedings. Members called the absence a direct insult to the House.
The session began with a tribute to those who fought terrorists during the 2001 Parliament attack. Shortly after, the Chairman requested the presence of a Cabinet Minister, as required by protocol. Despite waiting for about five minutes, none arrived.
Opposition leaders, including Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, criticised the government for the oversight. They argued that the absence of a minister showed disrespect to the House. When the Chairman’s response failed to satisfy them, MPs insisted on pausing the proceedings.
The Rajya Sabha was then adjourned for 10 minutes. The brief halt followed persistent demands from opposition benches, who refused to proceed without a minister present.
The adjournment lasted only 10 minutes, but it highlighted procedural concerns over ministerial attendance. No specific minister was named in official records as required by the Chairman. The session later resumed without further interruptions.
