Rapperswil-Jona's Litter Program Rebrands as 'SHIFT', Empowering Welfare Recipients
Rapperswil-Jona's former litter cleanup initiative has been rebranded as 'SHIFT', marking a conscious shift in its purpose and direction. The initiative, now an acronym for Social Support, Integration, Promotion, and Transition, aims to promote employment, integration, and self-sufficiency among welfare recipients. Originally launched as a street litter cleaning initiative in Rapperswil-Jona, the program has evolved to offer a wider range of tasks and support. Participants now engage in fine cleaning, courier services, invasive plant control, furniture management, and internal support work. The initiative provides job coaching and assistance in securing employment, internships, or external work opportunities. For participants with migrant backgrounds, integration support is a key priority. The City Council decided to rebrand the program as 'SHIFT', effective January 1, 2026. The new name reflects both the shift in the program's focus and its acronym, which encapsulates its core objectives. The rebranded 'SHIFT' initiative in Rapperswil-Jona now offers welfare recipients a structured work program with diverse tasks and comprehensive support. Its ultimate goal is to help each individual find a pathway back into the workforce, reduce dependence on welfare, and foster greater independence.
