RE10 train chaos leaves commuters stranded as cancellations hit 41%

The RE10 train line between Kleve and Düsseldorf has faced severe disruptions since January, with 41% of services cancelled, commuters demanding action. Transport officials have stepped in, calling the situation unacceptable and issuing warnings to the operator, Rhein-Ruhr-Bahn. The problems began early this year, with nearly half of all RE10 trains failing to run. Official figures confirm a 41% cancellation rate, though passengers claim delays and disruptions are even worse than reported. Currently, only six of the line’s 28 trains remain in service. Rhein-Ruhr-Bahn has admitted to management errors, but the VRR transport association has gone further. It has formally warned the company and announced heavy fines. Transport Minister Oliver Krischer described the ongoing chaos as 'absolutely unacceptable'. Frustrated commuters have taken matters into their own hands. An 'RE10 Interest Group' has formed to push for solutions. One affected passenger, Benedikt Prost, has faced repeated delays, cancellations, and even being stranded on the tracks. He and others now insist on being included in future discussions about the line’s operation. The VRR’s warning and fines mark a clear response to the ongoing failures. Commuters, backed by the new interest group, are pressing for immediate improvements. With only a fraction of trains running, the pressure on Rhein-Ruhr-Bahn to resolve the crisis continues to grow.
