Rebekka Seubert to Lead Aachen’s Ludwig Forum as New Director in 2026
Aachen City Council has appointed Rebekka Seubert as the new director of the Ludwig Forum Aachen. She will take up her role on March 1, 2026, succeeding Eva Birkenstock who moved to the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover. The Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation, which manages the Ludwig Forum, welcomes Seubert's appointment.
Seubert brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Currently serving as artistic director of the Dortmunder Kunstverein, she has previously held curatorial assistantships, taught at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts, and co-directed the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof. Her academic background includes studying German-French cultural institutions and fine arts.
Both Heinrich Brötz, Aachen’s cultural affairs commissioner, and Carla Cugini, managing director of the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation, have praised Seubert's professional and social expertise, fresh ideas, and nuanced perspective. The selection committee, comprising directors and scholars from various art institutions, also endorsed her appointment.
Rebekka Seubert, with her extensive experience and expertise, is set to guide the Ludwig Forum into its next chapter. She assumes the role on March 1, 2026, following Eva Birkenstock's departure. The city of Aachen and the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation look forward to her leadership.
