Ready to dive into some architectural marvels decked out with sleek steel windows and doors? The 2025 edition of the Steel Window Association (SWA) Awards has unveiled a host of stunning projects that showcase the artistry, craftsmanship, and technical innovation in the heart of the UK construction sector.

Reinforcing our roots in steel

In its second year, the SWA Awards expanded its horizon with two new categories—Domestic Project of the Year, Commercial Project of the Year, Refurbishment Project of the Year, and the coveted Supplier of the Year. John Ramshaw, Technical Editor at Architecture Today, and Taylor Alden’s Michele Andrews handled the judging, ensuring a fair and knowledgeable evaluation process.

Unleashing the victors, one project at a time

Domestic Project of the Year

Wiltshire House in Neston, Wiltshire, seized the limelight with its enchanting blend of tradition and modernity, as The Cotswold Casement Company took home this year's prize. Boasting a sympathetically designed ground-floor extension, Wiltshire House presents a harmonious dance between sleek, floor-to-ceiling steel windows and an elegant fire door design. The internal sliding doors and hallway doors elevate the interior style, creating an integral part of the overall design concept.

Commercial Project of the Year

Refurbishing an iconic, Grade II-listed Art Deco building, West Leigh turned Lem House in Maidstone, Kent, into a showcase of superior technical ability and craftsmanship. With a dedication to preserving the original charm, West Leigh replaced and modernized the existing steel-framed windows, doors, and windposts, solidifying its status as the 2025 Commercial Project of the Year.

Refurbishment Project of the Year

Transforming the erstwhile Empress Club into offices and retail units at 35 Dover Street in Mayfair, London, ASWS showcased its unmatched expertise in meticulous refurbishment. The company’s commitment to preserving history through painstaking detail and restoration shone through as it restored the 36 original “blacksmith” windows, securing the Refurbishment Project of the Year title.

Supplier of the Year

Joseph Ash Galvanizing emerged as the Supplier of the Year, impressing SWA members with its exceptional knowledge, availability, and collection and delivery services. A popular choice among manufacturers, Joseph Ash offers quality galvanising and powder coating, setting it apart from the competition.

Connecting the dots

“Once again, I was highly impressed by the quality and diversity of the schemes submitted,” said John Ramshaw, Technical Editor at Architecture Today. Each of the projects was assessed on their architectural attributes, technical excellence, attention to detail, and collaboration with clients and architects. The strong contenders stood out by showcasing their unique and innovative approach to using steel windows and doors, creating an undeniable connection between the exterior and interior spaces.
