The Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) domestic cargo terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) has achieved a significant milestone, handling a record 952 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo in July 2023. This surpassed the previous all-time high of 841 MT, representing a 13.2% overall increase in cargo throughput[1].

The airport's spokesperson emphasised that the GIAL cargo terminal continues to scale new heights, reflecting its ongoing commitment to operational excellence. The achievement was primarily driven by a 15.26% rise in inbound cargo volumes, with Delhi and Bengaluru being the top contributors to the substantial increase.

On the outbound side, Agartala and Imphal were the top-performing sectors. Outbound cargo saw a 5.24% growth, emphasising the airport's strategic role in facilitating trade from the region to major metropolitan destinations across the country, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

The growing role of Northeast India in national supply chains is highlighted by the performance of the GIAL cargo terminal. The terminal's continued growth reinforces its role as a key facilitator of trade in Northeast India.

Airport officials attributed the exceptional performance to streamlined operational processes, a committed workforce, and a customer-centric approach.
