Record Crowd Joins Saarbrücken Peace March Demanding Global Negotiations

On Holy Saturday, April 9, 2025, the annual Peace March organized by the Peace Network Saar drew a record crowd in Saarbrücken. Around 400 people participated, significantly more than in previous years, to voice their demands for peace.

The march began at the Johanniskirche and concluded at the St. Johanner Market. Waltraud Andruet, from the Peace Network Saar, welcomed attendees and expressed concern over current security policy developments. She stressed that every war, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, must be negotiated with all involved parties.

Several speakers, including Christian Umlauf and Barbara Spaniol, echoed the importance of a strengthened European engagement for peace. The central message of the march, 'Peace-capable instead of war-capable', resonated with the crowd. Many participants stayed on the market after the rally to continue discussions about their peace demands. The musical accompaniment was provided by MUSIKANDES, a cultural project for Latin American music, adding to the festive yet purposeful atmosphere.
