Record Folk Arts Competition Celebrates Tradition and Innovation

The 28th regional folk arts and crafts competition awards ceremony took place at the regional parliament. Yevgeny Lyulin, the Speaker of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Legislative Assembly, attended the event. It was dedicated to traditional decorative and applied art and saw a record number of entries across eight categories, including two new ones. Winners received awards and a standing ovation.

The competition introduced new categories this year, 'Dedicated to the Generation of Victors', recognising bloggers' work alongside traditional folk art. Nikolai Smirnov, President of the Folk Arts and Crafts Development Fund, praised the event's uniqueness and growing appeal among young people. Lyulin emphasised the importance of preserving and evolving folk art, inspiring young people to join folk craft enterprises. Sergei Yakovlev, Minister of Tourism and Crafts, noted the tie between traditional craft hub development and the national project 'Tourism and Hospitality'. The event was filled with festivity, featuring performances by children's ensembles and an interactive quiz involving lawmakers. A military-style clothing collection, 'Stars of Victory', was presented by the First of May Cultural Center.
