Regensburg and Budavár Strengthen 20-Year UNESCO City Partnership
Regensburg and Budavár, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, celebrated the 20th anniversary of their partnership from September 5 to 7, 2025. Led by Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, a delegation from Regensburg visited Budavár to mark the occasion and discuss future cooperation.
The partnership, spanning two decades, is significantly influenced by the younger generation through school partnerships, joint youth projects, and cultural cooperations. Both cities look towards the future, aiming to shape their partnership together.
Mayor Maltz-Schwarzfischer, who led the delegation, emphasized the importance of city partnerships in fostering a strong and united Europe. The visit culminated in a festive evening on a ship, symbolizing the connection of both cities by the Danube. A joint declaration was signed, committing to further deepen and expand the exchange between the two cities.
Working meetings were held to explore new fields of cooperation, including smart city solutions. The cities value the promotion of a lively cultural, educational, and youth exchange to strengthen their partnership.
Regensburg and Budavár, having been partner cities for 20 years, celebrated their anniversary with a focus on the future. They aim to expand their cooperation, with the support of their younger generations, to foster a stronger bond between the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
