Regiotram project advances to connect Aachen and neighboring regions by tram
Plans for the new Regiotram project are moving forward, with preliminary work now underway. The scheme will link Aachen, Würselen, Alsdorf, and Baesweiler via a modern tram line. Officials have confirmed the project’s economic and operational feasibility after a detailed study.
The Regiotram is designed to cut traffic jams, lower noise levels, and improve air quality across the regions. Once complete, the line will run from Aachen Central Station, passing through Elisenbrunnen, Würselen, and Alsdorf, before reaching Baesweiler. Construction is expected to take between 10 and 15 years.
The Regiotram aims to transform travel in the Aachen region by offering a faster, cleaner alternative to cars. With funding secured and planning underway, the next step involves public engagement at the December event. Officials will outline the timeline and benefits before construction begins.
