Reid Hoffman may leave the U.S. over Trump’s political pressure and Elon Musk feud
Reid Hoffman, the billionaire co-founder of LinkedIn, has become one of the few prominent tech leaders still openly criticising Donald Trump. His outspoken stance has made him a target of the former president’s attacks. Now, he is even considering leaving the U.S. if political pressures escalate further.
Hoffman has long been a vocal opponent of Trump, backing Kamala Harris during the election as one of her biggest donors. He recently condemned the silence of other Silicon Valley figures who privately disagree with Trump but stay quiet for fear of backlash.
His feud with Elon Musk has also intensified. Hoffman accused Musk of having a 'distorted relationship with the truth' and spreading lies about him. Musk, who initially supported Trump’s push to cut government spending, later clashed with the administration over policies like the 'Big Beautiful Bill' law. Their collaboration on the 'Department for Government Efficiency' (DOGE) programme ended in public disputes.
Trump has personally targeted Hoffman multiple times, adding to the pressure. While Hoffman still trusts the U.S. judiciary, he warns that if courts lose independence or political persecution worsens, he may have no choice but to leave the country.
Hoffman remains one of the last major tech figures willing to challenge Trump openly. His potential departure would mark a significant shift in Silicon Valley’s political landscape. For now, he continues to speak out, but his future in the U.S. depends on how the legal and political climate evolves.
