Reimagining Conservation Challenges Global Practices with Justice and Diversity

A global partnership, Reimagining Conservation, is reshaping the way we think about conservation. Launched in 2021, it challenges existing practices and calls for bold changes honouring diversity, solidarity, and shared responsibility. The initiative, backed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and led by Oliver Conz, is set to feature at the 2025 World Conservation Congress.

Reimagining Conservation began as a question and commitment to move beyond current conservation paradigms. It recognises the importance of justice alongside biodiversity for the planet's health. The initiative addresses ecological, cultural, political, and relational challenges, exploring four transformative chapters: conservation action, leadership and justice, money and power, and relationships. It emerged from listening to various stakeholders, including the land, communities, and each other, fostering leadership from those who live conservation daily and building strong partnerships across various sectors. Policy Matters Issue 24 is devoted to this groundbreaking initiative.

Reimagining Conservation, supported by IKI and led by Oliver Conz, is set to redefine conservation practices globally. By honouring diversity, fostering justice, and building partnerships, it aims to create a more inclusive and effective approach to environmental conservation, ensuring a healthier planet for all.
