Remedy Entertainment names new CEO after financial struggles and game flop
Remedy Entertainment has appointed Jean-Charles Gaudechon as its new CEO. The change follows a difficult financial period for the studio, marked by falling revenues and a recent commercial failure. Gaudechon takes over from Tero Virtala, who led the company for nearly a decade. The Finnish game developer reported a 32% drop in revenues for Q3 2025, alongside an operating loss of €16.4 million ($19.5 million). These struggles came after the poor performance of FBC: Firebreak, a game that failed to meet sales expectations. The setback triggered a profit warning and prompted the resignation of former CEO Tero Virtala.
Gaudechon brings experience from senior roles at Electronic Arts and CCP Games, where he managed full profit-and-loss responsibilities. His leadership will focus on turning the company's fortunes around through profitable growth and stronger creative output. Under his direction, Remedy aims to build lasting value by delivering high-quality games. Gaudechon has also emphasised a player-first approach, seeking to earn trust and strengthen the studio's independence. A key part of this strategy involves expanding self-publishing efforts rather than relying on external partners.
Gaudechon's appointment signals a shift in Remedy's direction, with a focus on financial recovery and greater control over its releases. The studio's reputation for unique games remains intact, but its next steps will determine whether it can regain stability. His leadership will be tested as the company works to reverse its recent losses and rebuild momentum.
