Rep. Trent Kelly Appointed Vice-chairman of House Intelligence Committee
Rep. Trent Kelly, a Republican from Mississippi's 1st District, has been appointed as Vice-chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. With a background in law and military service, Kelly brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Kelly's political career began in 2015 when he was elected to the US House of Representatives, representing Mississippi's 1st Congressional District, which is home to a significant shipbuilding industry. Before this, he served as district attorney, Tupelo city prosecutor, and maintained a private law practice in Saltillo, MS.
In Congress, Kelly has been a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Armed Services Committee. He has also served on several subcommittees, including the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, the National Security Agency and Cyber Subcommittee, and the Defense Intelligence & Overhead Architecture Subcommittee. As chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, Kelly oversees Navy and Marine Corps acquisition programs, including shipbuilding, reconnaissance, and weapons procurement, as well as related Air Force and Army programs.
Kelly holds a Master's in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, a JD degree from the University of Mississippi Law School, and a BA in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi. He has served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for nearly 40 years, retiring as major general, and has received two Bronze Stars and other military honors.
With his extensive legal and military background, Rep. Trent Kelly is well-positioned to contribute to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. His experience in the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee will be particularly valuable in overseeing military acquisition programs.
