Repasi is the SPD Baden-Württemberg's top candidate for the European election
René Repasi, a 43-year-old politician from Karlsruhe, became the sole SPD representative from Baden-Württemberg in the European Parliament. His election in 2022 marked a significant shift as he took over the seat previously held by Evelyne Gebhardt for decades.
Before his European Parliament candidacy, Repasi was an active SPD member in Baden-Württemberg. He gained attention for his firm stance on digital payments, once suggesting that those who preferred cash should seek out alternative sellers. His views on financial modernisation became a talking point during his campaign.
In 2022, Repasi secured the SPD’s top candidate spot for the European elections in Baden-Württemberg. He won the seat with an overwhelming 95.7 percent of the vote, ensuring his place as the region’s only SPD Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
Repasi now represents Baden-Württemberg in Brussels as the SPD’s lone MEP from the region. His strong mandate and background in financial policy position him as a key voice on economic and digital issues within the parliament.
