Berlin lawmakers will see their salaries rise from January 1, 2023. The increase follows an automatic adjustment tied to the nominal wage index. Their monthly pay will grow by 6.2 percent, along with higher allowances for office expenses and staffing costs.
The salary boost comes after the nominal wage index for 2022 recorded a 6.2 percent rise. This figure triggers an automatic pay adjustment for Berlin’s parliamentarians. Their new monthly salary will reach €8,161, an increase of €477.
Office expense allowances will also climb by 2.3 percent, bringing the total to €3,304 per month. Additionally, the budget for employing up to four staff members will rise to €8,057 monthly. These changes take effect at the start of 2023 without requiring further legislative approval.
The pay rise and allowance adjustments apply to all Berlin lawmakers from January. The increases reflect the latest wage index data and pre-set rules. No additional votes or discussions were needed to implement the changes.
