Restored WWII memorials in Nizhny Novgorod revive fading historical details
Two historic war memorials in the Nizhny Novgorod region have been carefully restored. The projects included the '1941–1945' mosaic at the Druzhba children’s health camp near Gorodets and the Eternal Flame stele in Dzerzhinsk. Artist Olga Alekseeva led the work and shared updates on her Telegram channel.
The restoration began with the '1941–1945' mosaic on the façade of the Druzhba Children’s Sanatorium. This piece, honouring the Second World War years, had weathered over time before receiving attention. Alekseeva’s team repaired damaged sections and revived the artwork’s original details.
The two restored memorials now stand as renewed tributes to the region’s history. Alekseeva’s work ensures their details remain visible for future visitors. Officials have not announced further restoration plans at this time.
