Rhine Valley train disruptions begin as major upgrades kick off mid-June
Major construction work is set to disrupt train services along the Rhine Valley line from mid-June. Deutsche Bahn will carry out upgrades between Troisdorf and Wiesbaden, affecting regional and S-Bahn routes. The project marks the start of a larger renovation planned for 2026, which will see the line close entirely for months.
From June 13 to July 14, passengers on the S8 and S9 lines to Mainz, as well as Regionalbahn line 58, will face delays and cancellations. The work includes building noise barriers, replacing a railway bridge, and constructing retaining walls along the right-bank Rhine route. Despite the disruption, long-distance trains will remain unaffected, as they do not use this stretch of track.
The upcoming construction will bring short-term disruptions but aims to improve long-term reliability on the Rhine Valley line. When the full closure begins in 2026, passengers can expect even more significant changes to their journeys. For now, those using the S8, S9, and RB58 services must prepare for a month of altered schedules.
