Kretschmann against Ashes Pendants and Urns in the Living Room - Rhineland-Palatinate Legalizes Divisible Ashes; Kretschmann Stands Firm on Traditional Burials

Rhineland-Palatinate has passed a progressive law allowing for the division of ashes into jewelry, home storage of urns, or river burials, provided the deceased's wishes are documented. Meanwhile, neighboring Baden-Württemberg's Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann maintains a conservative stance on burial regulations.

Kretschmann has explicitly opposed the liberalization of the cemetery ordinance in Baden-Württemberg, stressing the importance of communal burial as a civilizational achievement. He has not addressed changes to the burial laws during his term, preferring traditional cemetery burials. The Minister-President considers communal interment a major achievement and does not support further liberalization of modern burial practices such as keeping urns at home or scattering ashes in rivers.

While Rhineland-Palatinate has embraced more flexible end-of-life arrangements, Baden-Württemberg under Kretschmann's leadership continues to uphold traditional burial practices, with no plans to introduce changes during his tenure.
