RMV warns of transport chaos as Frankfurt rail projects disrupt millions
RMV, the transport association representing 2.5 million daily passengers in the Rhine-Main region, has issued a stark warning. Chairman Knut Ringat has expressed concern about declining service quality and the potential impact on regional transport. RMV is urging Deutsche Bahn to improve coordination of construction and maintenance work.
The situation has been exacerbated by two major railway projects: the comprehensive renovation of the Riedbahn (Frankfurt/Main–Mannheim) and the new Frankfurt–Mannheim line. Both projects, taking place in the Rhein-Main area, have led to significant disruptions in regional rail services due to inadequate coordination.
Passengers are growing increasingly frustrated. Short-term outages and schedule changes are causing considerable inconvenience, with many commuters left in the dark without any information. The situation has pushed passengers' tolerance to its limit, leading some to turn to cars for their daily journeys.
RMV is calling for prompt discussions and the establishment of cooperation frameworks to ensure a stable and reliable timetable for the region. They demand timely communication and coordination for all construction and maintenance work with Deutsche Bahn, EVN, and passengers. The aim is to restore confidence in the regional rail services and prevent further deterioration in service quality.
