Robberies on Senior Citizens: The Verdicts Are In
Two men have been jailed for a string of violent robberies targeting elderly victims in Salzgitter and Wolfenbüttel. The attacks took place in early 2024, leaving several seniors injured. A court has now handed down lengthy prison sentences to the pair.
The first robbery happened at a Netto supermarket on Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Straße in Salzgitter. Shortly after, a second attack occurred in Wolfenbüttel, where an elderly man was assaulted inside his own home. A third incident followed in Salzgitter-Thiede, this time involving an elderly couple who suffered injuries.
The two defendants, aged 26 and 24, faced trial for their roles in the crimes. The older man received an eight-year and six-month prison term, along with a compensation order of €18,123.00. His accomplice was sentenced to seven years and six months behind bars, plus a restitution payment of €19,420.92. The younger defendant also received an additional six months for perjury. No further suspects have been named in connection with the robberies. Investigations relied on news archives and aggregators, but no additional details about the attackers were made public.
The convictions bring closure to a series of violent crimes that shook local communities. Both men will serve lengthy prison terms while repaying substantial sums to their victims. The sentences reflect the severity of the offences and the harm caused to elderly residents.
