Roman Ruins Halt Epfach’s Water Pipeline Expansion Plans
Plans to expand a water pipeline in Epfach have been halted after workers uncovered Roman-era remains. The discovery was made during preparations for the project along St. Lorenzstraße in the Denklingen district. Local officials now face delays as archaeological surveys take priority.
The municipal council initially approved a €44,000 renovation of the existing pressure-reducing shaft last September. However, the recent find has forced an indefinite postponement of the wider pipeline project. Mayor Andreas Braunegger acknowledged the situation, noting that while the current shaft remains functional, it occasionally causes problems.
The Roman-era discovery has reshaped the timeline for Epfach’s water infrastructure upgrades. Archaeological work will take precedence, pushing back construction plans significantly. The council’s next steps depend on the findings and the extent of the required surveys.
