Romanian Minehunter Joins Black Sea Task Group After UK Training
The Romanian minehunter Capitan Constantin Dumitrescu, after rigorous training with the Royal Navy, has joined a multinational task group to bolster Black Sea security. The vessel, commanded by Captain Constantin Dumitrescu, is the second of its class to serve Romania, following the ROS Sublocotenent Ion Ghiculescu in 2023.
The crew of 45 underwent demanding assessments, mirroring those of UK warships, covering navigation, damage control, minehunting operations, and complex combat situations. The training was delivered by Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST) and concluded with assessments that praised the professionalism and technical proficiency of Commanding Officer Locotenent-Comandor Mădălina Drăgan and her crew.
The Dumitrescu is set to sail for Constanța Naval Base for maintenance before joining operations under the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Group. This multinational task group includes Bulgaria, Türkiye, and Ukraine, aiming to strengthen maritime security, protect navigation, and address the threat posed by naval mines in the region.
The Dumitrescu, officially commissioned into the Forțele Navale Române in August after being transferred from the Royal Navy, brings valuable capabilities to the Black Sea security mission. With her crew's intensive training and proven proficiency, she is ready to contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
