Rostec intends to revive the manufacture of the Superjet by the year 2026
The Russian corporation Rostec is set to deliver the domestically produced SJ-100 aircraft to airlines in 2026, following the completion of certification tests scheduled by the end of 2025. The news has been reported by Habarovsk Krai Today news agency and the Russian government's website.
Certification tests for the SJ-100 with the Russian Aviadvigatel PD-8 engine are currently underway, with the maiden flight of the SJ-100 prototype with the PD-8 engine taking place in March 2025. These steps mark progress towards certification and the eventual delivery of the aircraft.
Rostec's General Director, Sergei Chemezov, has emphasised the focus on technical maintenance of the aircraft, particularly timely spare parts delivery. To support this, service facilities for the SJ-100 aircraft are being developed and will total 50. These facilities are designed to enable timely maintenance and spare parts supply.
The second domestically produced SJ-100 aircraft has already flown from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to Moscow, signifying a focus on service and maintenance. This flight, overseen by Chemezov, is part of the preparation for the upcoming deliveries.
The exact number of SJ-100 aircraft that will be delivered in 2026 has not been disclosed, nor has information about which airlines will receive the aircraft. However, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced that serial deliveries of the PD-8 engines (for the localized SJ-100 version) to production aircraft are set to commence next spring, i.e., spring 2026.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been informed about the plans for the SJ-100 aircraft by Chemezov. The development of service facilities for the SJ-100 aircraft is ongoing, with a total of 50 facilities planned.
This news marks a significant step forward for the Russian aviation industry, with the SJ-100 aircraft set to join the ranks of domestically produced aircraft. Further updates on the delivery schedule and the airlines set to receive the SJ-100 aircraft are expected in the coming months.
